Content Studio's editor is where your articles take shape. Whether you're polishing an AI-generated draft or writing from scratch, the editor provides rich text formatting, an inline AI assistant for on-the-fly rewrites, and a real-time SEO sidebar that tracks your optimization progress as you work.

This article covers the editor's key features, formatting tools, and keyboard shortcuts so you can work efficiently.

Editor Overview

The editor is split into two areas. The main editing area on the left is where you write and format your content. The SEO sidebar on the right displays real-time metrics including keyword density, readability score, content length, and alerts for missing keywords. Together, they let you write and optimize simultaneously without switching between tools.

Rich Text Formatting

The editor supports standard rich text formatting that translates cleanly to most content management systems.

Text Formatting

You can apply bold, italic, and underline styling using the toolbar or keyboard shortcuts. Use bold sparingly to highlight key terms and important concepts — overusing it reduces its impact and can make content harder to scan.

Headings

Headings (H1 through H6) structure your article and signal topic hierarchy to both readers and search engines. In most cases, you'll use H2 headings for major sections and H3 headings for subsections within them.

Tip: Your article should have exactly one H1 heading (the title). All section headings within the body should use H2 and below. This structure follows SEO best practices and is what search engines expect.

Lists

Use numbered lists for sequential steps or ranked items where order matters. Use bullet lists for groups of related items where order doesn't matter. The editor supports both, accessible from the toolbar.

Links and Images

Insert hyperlinks using the link tool or the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl/Cmd + K). For images, use the image insertion tool to add visuals at appropriate points in your article. Always include descriptive alt text for images — this helps with accessibility and gives search engines context about the image content.

Block Quotes

Block quotes are useful for highlighting important information, calling out expert quotes, or setting apart key statistics. Use them to break up long stretches of text and draw attention to crucial points.

Inline AI Assistant

The editor includes an AI assistant that can help you rewrite, expand, or refine text without leaving the editing flow.

How to Use It

  1. Highlight the text you want to modify.

  2. Click the Rewrite button that appears (or access it from the toolbar).

  3. Choose a rewrite mode.

  4. The AI generates an alternative version, which you can accept, reject, or further edit.

Rewrite Modes

Mode

What It Does

When to Use

Simpler

Reduces complexity and simplifies vocabulary

When content is too technical for your audience

More Professional

Elevates tone and formality

When content sounds too casual for your context

Shorter

Condenses the selection while preserving meaning

When a section is unnecessarily verbose

Expand

Adds more detail and explanation

When a section needs more depth or examples

Generate Alternatives

Produces different phrasing options

When you want to compare multiple versions of a sentence or paragraph

You can apply these modes to anything from a single sentence to an entire section. For best results, work on one paragraph or section at a time rather than selecting the entire article.

Tip: The inline AI assistant is especially useful for smoothing transitions between sections, simplifying jargon-heavy paragraphs, and tightening wordy conclusions.

SEO Sidebar

The SEO sidebar is always visible while you're editing and updates in real time as you write. It tracks four key metrics.

Keyword Density

Shows how frequently your target keywords appear in the article as a percentage of total words. The sidebar highlights whether your primary and secondary keywords are used enough, too much, or not at all.

A natural keyword density typically falls between 1–2% for your primary keyword. The sidebar will alert you if density is too low (your keyword might not rank) or too high (which can look like keyword stuffing to search engines).

Readability Score

Displays a readability rating based on factors like sentence length, vocabulary complexity, and use of passive voice. Content aimed at a general audience should target a readability score that's accessible without being oversimplified. See Content Enhancement and SEO Optimization for a detailed breakdown of readability metrics.

Content Length

A simple word count that tracks your article length against your target word count from the brief. This helps you gauge whether you're on track or need to expand or trim sections.

Missing Keywords Alert

Lists any keywords from your brief that haven't appeared in the article yet. This is a helpful checklist for ensuring you've covered the terms that signal topical relevance to search engines.

Keyboard Shortcuts

The editor supports keyboard shortcuts for common actions, helping you work faster without reaching for the mouse.

Working Efficiently in the Editor

Here are a few practices that help you get the most out of the editing experience.

Write in passes, not perfection. On your first pass, focus on content accuracy and completeness. On the second pass, refine tone and readability. On the third, check SEO metrics and keywords. Trying to do everything at once slows you down.

Use the AI assistant for specific tasks. Rather than rewriting large blocks of text, target specific sentences or paragraphs that need improvement. The AI is most effective when given focused, bounded tasks.

Check the SEO sidebar regularly. Glance at it after completing each major section. It's easier to adjust keyword usage and readability as you go than to overhaul the entire article at the end.

Save frequently. Use Ctrl/Cmd + S to save your work. The editor preserves your content, but regular saves protect against unexpected interruptions.

Practical Next Steps

Now that you're comfortable with the editor, explore Adding Citations and Internal Links to learn how to add source credibility and strengthen your site's link structure. For a deep dive into the readability and SEO metrics displayed in the sidebar, see Content Enhancement and SEO Optimization.
